The U.S. Energy Information Administration has released updated gasoline prices but delayed its weekly release of national diesel prices for the second week in a row June 27.

The national average price of diesel dipped for the second week in a row, down this week by 4.2 cents to $5.571 a gallon from $5.613, the Energy Information Administration reported May 23.

Fuel prices are high, but your company has worked hard to implement the right fuel program; you’ve negotiated discounts with retail chains and set up bulk and mobile fueling deals… right? 

The rise in fuel prices is slowing a decline in spot rates while also potentially suppressing base revenue for some carriers, experts said.

The national average price for diesel continued its rampage in the new year, surging 10.5 cents to $3.951 a gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released Feb. 7.

Oil prices have crept back into the $70s, wholesale prices continued to fall, but not much has changed with demand and supply. As we get into 2022 and the winter weather, prices will reach back into the $80s.

The national average price of a gallon of diesel reached its highest cost in more than seven years, rising 5.5 cents to $3.78, according to Energy Information Administration data released Jan. 24.

European energy markets from natural gas to carbon permits jumped to records, signaling the supply shortage will get worse just as the winter season starts. Stockpiles of everything from gas to coal and Norwegian water for electricity production are dwindling and there are few signs the situation will improve anytime soon as demand continues to roar back from a pandemic-driven lull.

Legislation that would establish a program at the U.S. Department of Energy to assist the trucking industry with the adoption of fuel-efficient technologies recently was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Supply chain challenges have prompted multiple states in the Midwest to extend regulatory relief to truckers who haul fuel.
