U.S. medium-duty truck sales are on track to end 2025 with only one year-over-year increase, that coming in January, according to data from Omdia Automotive.

LG is the latest casualty of Ford’s EV rollback. The carmaker said it would take $19.5 billion in charges tied to the business and that it would break up its U.S. battery venture with SK Innovation. 

Ford Motor Co. will take $19.5 billion in charges tied to a sweeping overhaul of its electric vehicle business after struggling for years to make it profitable.

Christian Moran of Ford Secure says, “Thieves do like to go after pickup trucks. They also like to go after the contents that are often in pickup trucks."

SK Innovation’s battery unit SK On will take over the companies’ BlueOval SK plant in Tennessee, while Ford will take on their factory in Kentucky, according to an emailed statement.

Ford affirmed that it still expects to earn $6 billion to $6.5 billion before interest and taxes this year, despite a second significant fire this week at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego, N.Y.

The blaze is the latest incident at the facility that produces aluminum sheet metal for Ford vehicles including its top-selling F-150 pickup. A fire in September shuttered production.

The last unit, a white five-door hatchback, rolled off the line at the Saarlouis plant in Germany this month, marking the end of a car that sold more than 12 million units worldwide, Ford said.

Ford is considering scrapping the electric version of its F-150 pickup truck, known as the F-150 Lightning, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing people familiar with the matter. 

The engines will not be exported to the U.S., but it’s unclear which countries they will be sent to, a source told Bloomberg. An announcement is expected as early as this week.
