U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy has resigned, hastening his previously announced departure as the nation’s postal agency looks to stem financial losses and overhaul its operations.

The U.S. Postal Service has signed an agreement with DOGE and the General Services Administration to help the agency in “identifying and achieving further efficiencies.” 

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy asked the board overseeing the U.S. Postal Service to begin the succession process, paving the way for his departure after a turbulent run of almost five years.

President Donald Trump said he would maintain the duty-free exception for low-value packages coming from China until “adequate systems are in place to fully and expediently process and collect tariff revenue.” 

Chinese retailers that sell on Shein and Temu have been asked by logistics agents to start paying an additional 30% levy after President Donald Trump hiked tariffs on goods imported to the U.S.

Postmaster General Louis DeJoy said the Postal Service needs to replace aging trucks, and he wasn’t aware of an effort by the incoming presidential administration to cancel plans to buy EVs.

Some 200,000 mail carriers have reached a tentative contract deal with the U.S. Postal Service that includes backdated pay raises and a promise to provide air-conditioned trucks.
