U.S. ports capped off 2024 with solid growth, as most major facilities reported volume increases for December.

The busiest U.S. seaport finished 2024 with near-record trade volumes as tariff uncertainty and supply chain diversions brought a sustained wave of imports through Southern California.

The Port of Long Beach achieved its busiest November ever by increasing to 884,154 containers from 731,033 last year. This surpasses the previous record for the month set in November 2020.

The Port of Los Angeles is set for its busiest December on record, and the Port of Long Beach is on track to have its best-ever year after the hubs handled an early and sustained peak season.

U.S. ports continued to report strong year-over-year gains for cargo handling in October.

Imports at the Port of Los Angeles last month totaled 462,740 20-foot-equivalent units, or TEUs. The port also handled 122,716 export containers and 319,570 empty containers in October.
