A group of state trucking associations has released an action plan identifying seven areas bad actors exploit in the industry with solutions to eliminate fraud and illegal operators.

Mexican truck drivers hauling domestic U.S. freight recently were detained and saw their commercial vehicles seized by federal agents in a U.S. CBP enforcement effort targeting “cabotage.”

American Trucking Associations has asked Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to provide clarity on a long-pending federal proposal to reclassify marijuana as a less harmful drug.

Sean Duffy's announcement noted 77% of the funds were allocated to roads and bridges “to reinforce the arteries of the American economy” while $35 million went to port improvements.

The aim of his agenda, Sean Duffy explained, is to further invest in freight and commuter connectivity corridors as well as expedite the completion of major infrastructure projects.

“Truckers keep America running,” the DOT secretary said. “While the country sleeps, truckers grind through the night to help keep shelves stocked, families fed and businesses humming."

A federal lawmaker from Wyoming is asking USDOT to require that CMV drivers who cannot demonstrate proficiency with speaking and reading English be taken out of service during inspections.

The federation in an April 10 letter outlined entry-level driver training, English language proficiency and drivers entering the U.S. from Mexico and overstaying their visa.
