A.P. Moller-Maersk A/S named Robert Erni as its new chief financial officer, selecting an executive with a strong track record in logistics where Denmark’s biggest company is seeking to expand.

Erni, 59, joins from a similar position at Germany’s Dachser GmbH & Co and has previously also worked at freight-forwarders Panalpina AG and Kuehne + Nagel International AG, on Dec. 12.

Maersk’s current CFO, Patrick Jany, 57, will leave after almost six years following the release of the 2025 report on Feb. 5.

Famous for its fleet of containerships that plow the world’s oceans,Maersk has a strategy to grow in land-based logistics. That business has historically had higher and more stable profit margins than container shipping, but the Copenhagen-based company has been moving slower with the shift than some analysts had expected.

“The profile of the new CFO could indicate further focus and potential M&A activity in the logistics segment,” Brian Godsk Borsting, a credit analyst at Danske Bank A/S, said in a note.

Maersk is also dealing with radical shifts in global trade, including the U.S.-led tariff war and disruptions in vessel transit through the Red Sea.

In aseparate statement, CEO Vincent Clerc announced a shuffle of his team of regional managers, replacing four managing directors in order to “deliver with pace in a market that is constantly evolving,” the CEO said.
