Rental car giant is buying fellow St. Louis-based privately owned transportation group for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 1918, Hogan operates a dedicated carrier unit plus Classes 7 and 8 rental and leasing operations, and the acquisition would be Enterprise’s first foray into the heavy-duty commercial vehicle sector, a spokeswoman confirmed Dec. 8.

Best known for its Enterprise Rent-A-Car, National Car Rental and Alamo passenger car rental and leasing brands, Enterprise already offered light- and medium-duty truck rental.

Hogan has more than 50 U.S. facilities and over 3,000 employees, with more than 1,700 of those team members part of its dedicated fleet.

Hogan’s dedicated unit, Hogan Dedicated Services, operates 1,581 tractors, according to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration records.

Hogan Dedicated Services operates under the Hogan Transports umbrella, the data shows, while Enterprise said the division also comprises truckload transportation and capacity services units.

In total, Hogan operates in excess of 10,000 pieces of rolling stock, its new parent company said when announcing the deal.

Those trucks are divided between Hogan Truck Leasing and Hogan Truck Rental. The former offers full-service leasing, including maintenance and repair, while the latter supplies commercial truck, tractor and trailer rentals.

The trailers include refrigerated, flatbed, automotive hauler and livestock options, Enterprise said. The spokeswoman could not provide any details on trailer numbers by freight segment.

Third-generation owners David and Brian Hogan will remain at the helm of the eponymous company under the Enterprise umbrella. Hogan will continue to operate separately “for the foreseeable future,” Enterprise said.

“Thanks to our great team and customers, Hogan has become a leader in the transportation industry, backed by 100-plus years of experience,” said David Hogan, president of Hogan Transports.

“We are excited to combine with Enterprise Mobility and continue to grow the reach and offerings of Hogan. Through the combination, customers of both Enterprise Mobility and Hogan will gain access to a wider range of services, along with an enhanced network and fleet,” he added.

Hogan’s leadership team includes brothers David, Brian and Carl Hogan. Fourth-generation family members also work for the company.

“Since our founding in 1918, we’ve continued to honor our vision of being the most respected transportation provider in the industry, known for delivering exceptional quality and value for our customers, employees and strategic partners,” said Brian Hogan, president of Hogan Truck Leasing.

“Our longevity and continued success are built on our family-owned, collaborative and supportive culture. Enterprise Mobility’s similar values and purpose, along with their commitment to managing their business for the long term like us, is why we feel this is right for both customers and employees,” he said.

Enterprise is owned by the Taylor family.

“Recognizing the complementary networks, talented workforces and respective industry expertise, this marks an exciting next chapter for two leading providers of transportation solutions,” said Chrissy Taylor, president and CEO of Enterprise Mobility. “It also reaffirms our mobility ambition and commitment to continued investment to meet customer needs today and in the future.”

“We look forward to the opportunities for long-term growth and diversification this combination brings,” Taylor added. “With an expanded portfolio that now offers every vehicle class in North America, the business is well positioned to deliver custom mobility solutions to address each customer’s unique needs.”
