Canada and its 13 provinces and territories agreed to knock down more hurdles to trading internally, as the country tries to reduce its reliance on the U.S. amid a punishing trade war.

Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum in Singapore, Raimondo argued that the political cost of unwinding tariffs is too high for any future administration, regardless of party. 

“It will definitely be positive for the cost of logistics,” said Mohammed Akoojee. “Up until now, the trade war has increased the cost of logistics in terms of freight rates and duties.”

The move comes as President Trump has pivoted to focusing on affordability measures as voters are growing increasingly wary of the economy under his leadership.

Wall Street heavyweights have struck deals with companies that could be eligible for reimbursement if tariffs are ruled unlawful, yet investors are finding the trade can be had for relatively cheap.

The moves to ease trade in cattle come as the Trump administration is looking to provide relief to American consumers with wholesale beef prices surging in recent years.

After a flurry of orders late last month — which were the first of this season — Chinese imports of U.S. cargoes seem to have faltered, according to traders who asked not to be identified.

The pause is fueling uncertainty over whether the biggest consumer of American soybeans will import as much as President Donald Trump’s administration claims to expect.

“What you’re seeing right now clearly is something of a relief rally when people have been pretty negative on the prospects for both FedEx and UPS,” said Ari Rosa, an analyst at Citigroup.
