In the midst of a strong U.S. economy, less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. reported record fourth-quarter earnings Feb. 4.

Saia Inc., a multiregional LTL, nonasset truckload, expedited and logistics services provider, announced it has named Frederick J. Holzgrefe III as its new president and chief operating officer effectively immediately, according to a Jan. 4 press release. Additionally, he has joined the board of directors.

In the midst of a buoyant economy, less-than-truckload carrier Saia Inc. on Aug. 1 reported record second-quarter earnings. Saia said operating revenue was up nearly 18%, reaching nearly $428.7 million, or $1.18 a share, compared with $364.4 million, or 69 cents a share, for the same period in 2017.

Saia Inc. reported April 27 first-quarter net income of $21.1 million, or 80 cents per share, an increase of 85% from the $11.4 million in net income and 44 cents per share reported in the first quarter of 2017.

Profits at Saia Inc. nearly quintupled in the fourth quarter due to the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, but the less-than-truckload carrier grew top- and bottom-line results in 2017 even without the one-time tax benefit.

Saia Inc. opened a new terminal in St. Peters, Mo., about 35 miles west of St. Louis, the less-than-truckload carrier’s latest in a wave of expansion across the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic and Northeast in 2017.
