Navistar executives predict 2018 will be a strong year for the Springfield, Ohio manufacturer. The company reported a profit of $30 million in 2017 — its first annual profit in six years — a result company officials called a breakthrough year for the truckmaker.

Navistar International Corp. achieved profitability during its 2017 fiscal year as it battles back from sustained losses, but the company’s chief executive said it’s not all about the money. More important, he says, are the growing indications that Navistar is winning back the trust of truck buyers compared with the situation it faced when it launched a turnaround effort a few years ago.

ATLANTA — Navistar International Corp., the parent company of International Truck, announced its new HV model intended for severe service applications in North America.

Navistar’s president and CEO told a Senate panel last week that autonomous vehicle technology likely won’t eliminate the need for truck drivers, but drivers may need to gain new skills as they’re asked to manage several trucks at once.

International Truck, a unit of Navistar International Corp., announced redesigns and updates to its flagship, almost decade-old, LoneStar model.

Truck and engine maker Navistar International Corp. returned to profitability during the fiscal quarter ended July 31, posting net income of $37 million, or 38 cents a share, as sales rose by 6.1% to $2.21 billion.
