Landstar System reported a big bump in business, posting record earnings and revenue in the third quarter.

Landstar System reported record second-quarter net income of $62.5 million, or $1.51 a share, a rise of 67% from $37.5 million, and 89 cents per share, in the same period a year ago.

Landstar System reported its best first quarter with revenue jumping 34.2% to $1.05 billion and profits reaching a record $57.5 million, or $1.37 a share, as demand for freight hauling continued to strain truck capacity in the market.

Landstar System posted stronger-than-expected earnings Oct. 25, with net income rising 17% year-over-year in the third quarter, easily surpassing the Bloomberg News consensus forecast.
