General Motors Co. will delay the opening of its second electric truck plant in Michigan to preserve capital amid a slowdown in sales growth for electric vehicles.

TORONTO — General Motors and the union representing Canadian auto workers reached a tentative contract agreement Oct. 10, ending a strike that began just after midnight.

DETROIT — Automakers posted big increases in new vehicle sales during the summer, despite high prices, rising interest rates and even a limited strike against Detroit companies.

The president of the United Auto Workers said Sept. 22 the union will expand its strike against major automakers by walking out of 38 General Motors and Stellantis plants in 20 states.

The leader of the United Auto Workers said that a limited strike targeting plants in Missouri, Michigan and Ohio may be expanded if “serious progress” toward an new contract agreement isn’t made by Sept. 22 at noon.

DETROIT — Unionized workers at a General Motors joint venture electric vehicle battery plant will see pay raises while they continue to negotiate a contract, if they ratify an interim deal.

DETROIT — Despite taking on a huge chunk of an expensive electric vehicle recall, General Motors posted $2.54 billion in second-quarter net income, a 52% increase over a year ago. 

While the United Auto Workers union hammers out a new deal with GM and battery manufacturer Ultium Cells, workers are pointing to safety hazards as a key issue in the negotiations.

General Motors Co. and Toyota Motor Corp. both posted strong sales gains in the second quarter, signs of consumer health in the auto market as semiconductor supply improves.

DETROIT — General Motors said it will sink more than $500 million into its Arlington, Texas, assembly plant to get ready for the next generation of big SUVs with internal combustion engines.
