Commercial vehicle supplier Meritor Inc. reported lower fiscal first-quarter income and revenue as North American Class 8 production tailed off, it said Feb. 1.

Wabash National Corp., North America’s largest trailer maker, saw fourth-quarter profits and revenue slip compared with the 2015 period. Net income, however, rose for the full year on lower revenue, the company reported Jan. 31.

Several large truckload companies suffered from inconsistent fuel prices and lower freight revenue per truck, leading to steep declines in net income in the fourth quarter, but executives remain cautiously optimistic that industry conditions will improve in the second half of 2017.

YRC Worldwide Inc. released preliminary figures on its operating income and earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization for the fourth quarter of 2016 and the entire year, both of which fall short of analysts' estimates.

Westport Fuel Systems Inc. on Nov. 9 reported a net loss and higher revenue for the third quarter, as the recently merged company announced that it continues to review the business and operations to determine additional synergies and efficiencies.

Swift Transportation reversed course after reporting third-quarter earnings were up 4.7% year-over-year to $38 million on Oct. 24, lowering the number to $24 million, or a 34% decline lower than a year ago.
