Canadian freight railroad Canadian Pacific’s first-quarter net income jumped 74% to C$99.8 million, or 59 cents per share, from C$57.3 million, or 36 cents, a year earlier.

Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. said Tuesday its fourth-quarter net income rose to C$342.3 million, or C$2.21 per share, compared with C95 cents, in the previous fourth quarter.

The Teamsters Canada Rail Conference, which represents 4,500 locomotive engineers and conductors, reached an agreement with rail line Canadian Pacific on a revised tentative five-year contract settlement, CP said.

Canadian Pacific Railway said it earned C$218.6 million or C$1.41 a share, up from $163.8 million or C$1.04 a year earlier.
