Volvo Trucks expanded its European push into electrification, announcing its FE electric model, intended for heavier city distribution and refuse transport operations with gross weights of up to 59,525 pounds.
The Gothenburg, Sweden-based manufacturer debuted its initial all-electric truck, the FL model, in April.
The first Volvo FE Electric, a refuse truck with a superstructure developed together with refuse collection bodybuilder Faun, will start operating in early 2019 in Germany鈥檚 second-largest city, Hamburg.
The FE has a range of 200 kilometers, or 124 miles.
鈥淥ur solutions for electrified transport are designed to suit the specific needs of each customer and each city,鈥 said Jonas Odermalm, product line vice president for the Volvo FL and Volvo FE. 鈥淚n addition to the vehicles, we will offer everything from route analysis to services and financing via our network of dealers and workshops throughout Europe. We also have close partnerships with suppliers of charging infrastructure.鈥
