The heads of the leading railroad and trucking associations met March 26 to discuss increases in truck cargo capacity and railroad competitive access, spokesmen for both groups said.

Association of American Railroads President Edward Hamberger and American Trucking Associations President Walter B. McCormick Jr. discussed a variety of issues during their lunch meeting, AAR spokesman Tom White said.

鈥淚t was a good discussion on issues of mutual interest to both groups,鈥 White said. 鈥淭hey talked about areas where the two industries might be able to work together.鈥

ATA spokesman Regina Blakely was more circumspect in her description of the meeting. 鈥淭hey had a fruitful conversation. They are planning on getting together again soon to discuss these two very important modes of transportation,鈥 Blakely said.

McCormick initiated the dialogue in February as part of the association鈥檚 efforts to win increases in truck sizes and weight (2-22, p. 1).
