Swift Transportation Recruits Federal Help For Contract Training

img src="/sites/default/files/images/articles/printeditiontag_new.gif" width=120 align=right>A year after backing out of the market for truck driver training loans, Sallie Mae, the government-sponsored lending institution, may be ready to make a small comeback.

Swift Transportation and its recruiting partner, DriverCareers.com, said Sallie Mae has committed $20 million to fund loans made to students that enroll in Swift’s driver training program.

A Sallie Mae spokeswoman confirmed last week that the agency is talking to Phoenix-based Swift, but said that an agreement "has not been signed."
