NITL to Sharpen Focus On Surface Transportation

Trucks, trains, ships and planes will be on the minds of the estimated 2,500 shippers who are gathering in San Antonio Nov. 14 to 17 for the 92nd annual meeting of the National Industrial Transportation League.

This year鈥檚 conference is focusing more on surface transportation than recent years, said NITL President Edward M. Emmett.

鈥淲e鈥檙e spending more time on those issues than we have in the past,鈥 Emmett said. 鈥淲e鈥檝e spent an inordinate amount of time on the Conrail merger in the East, and we鈥檝e tried to negotiate with the railroads on increased competition.

鈥淚n terms of motor carriers, we鈥檝e had working groups dealing with driver retention issues, freight classification and liability, and truck sizes and weights.鈥
