Now that the federal government is taking over big businesses, it is time to reregulate trucking industry rating structures. We need price stabilization of rates so we can purchase equipment and train our personnel properly.

Since 1978, when I started operations, I have watched the trucking industry continually tear itself down. There will always be another fool with enough money to buy a cheap truck, charge below-profit rates and go out of business, while the next fool is in line to take his or her place.

I agree wholeheartedly with op-ed writer Ryan McDonald’s opinion on the value of tail-ride checks, when they are performed by safety professionals. These on-the-road driver observations are an integral part of my company’s services to the Canadian transportation industry.

I agree with the letter writer’s arguments concerning the liability aspects of drivers on top of trailers unless proper fall safety equipment is used.

Here we go again — the safety freaks filing yet another challenge to the current hours of service, led unfortunately by my illustrious leader, James Hoffa. I think he needs to pull his head out of the sand on this one.
