Platinum Equity has agreed to buy American Traffic Solutions, a company that provides red-light and speed safety cameras along with automated toll-payment and violation-management systems in the United States and Canada.

While President Donald Trump is calling for reversals of some environmental regulations, it’s important to note what isn’t changing. And that is the commitment that freight carriers, truck makers and even some shippers, such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc., are making to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions.

There is nothing fun about not getting paid for the loads you have hauled. But unfortunately, every small trucking company and owner-operator will encounter clients who sometimes take 45 to 60 days — or longer — to pay.

With the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus closing down “the greatest show on Earth,” it appears that truckload executives and investors are pitching in to fill the void.

The American trucking industry depends on drivers: a simple statement but one that bears repeating. As president of American Trucking Associations, I have the great privilege of representing 3.5 million professional truck drivers, working on their behalf in Washington to make our industry better, to make their jobs easier.

I love trucks. As I travel the country as chairman of American Trucking Associations, I wear a simple button with a simple message: “I Love Trucks.” I even wear it in my official ATA chairman’s portrait. It’s a button I encourage everyone I meet to wear. It starts conversations about this great industry and gives me a chance to tell our story.

As I prepare to serve as chairman of the Transportation Intermediaries Association for the next two years, I reflect on my experience with the association. Throughout the past 13 years of attending TIA events, participating on various committees and investing time as a board member and executive committee member, I have experienced firsthand the benefits that come from associating with and investing in TIA.
