Wireless-services provider Qualcomm Inc. reported its fiscal second-quarter profit jumped 22% to $726 million or 43 cents a share, from $593 million or 34 cents a year ago.

Ryder System said Wednesday its first-quarter profit rose 8% to $51.3 million or 84 cents a share, from $47.6 million or 77 cents a year ago.

Forward Air Corp., a contractor to the air cargo industry, said its first-quarter profit slipped by 6% to $10.3 million or 34 cents a share, from $11 million or 35 cents a year ago.

Trucking companies are concerned that new emissions rules in effect this year are hurting mileage and their bottom lines, the Wall Street Journal reported Tuesday.

Canadian transportation firm TransForce Income Fund said Tuesday it earned C$20.9 million or 24 cents a share in the first quarter, down from C$22.1 million or 27 cents a year earlier.

Transportation and logistics firm C.H. Robinson Worldwide said its first-quarter net income jumped 25.6% to $73 million or 42 cents a share, up from $58.1 million or 33 cents a year ago.
