LAS VEGAS — After many years of development work, autonomous trucks are now on the cusp of commercial driverless operations on highways, in logistics yards and on private sites.

“We are pleased to report that this quarter is the first quarter in the last eight with year-over-year comparable earnings growth," CEO Robert Sanchez said during a call with investors.

Amazon on Feb. 6 reported better-than-expected revenue and profit for the holiday shopping period, but its share price dipped in after-hours trading due to disappointing guidance for Q1.

The Greenwich, Conn.-based less-than-truckload carrier posted net income of $76 million, compared with $58 million during the same time the previous year.

But the Charlotte, N.C.-based asset-light transportation provider posted a net loss of $20 million, or negative 12 cents a diluted share, for the three months ending Dec. 31.

The Fort Smith, Ark.-based logistics company posted net income of $29 million, or $1.24 a diluted share, for the three months ending Dec. 31.

The Eden Prairie, Minn.-based logistics and shipping company on Jan. 29 posted net income of $149.3 million, or $1.22 a diluted share, for the three months ending Dec. 31.

Buechel, a former management consultant, joined Whole Foods in 2013, and led efforts to unify the formerly decentralized chain’s technology and record-keeping systems.

Covenant reported a profit of $6.7 million or earnings per diluted share of 24 cents in Q4, just over half the $12.8 million or 47 cents per diluted share profit posted in Q4 2023.

The Lowell, Ark.-based carrier ended the year slightly behind where it was during the prior fourth quarter amid efforts to reinvest and improve operations, the company reported Jan. 16.
