Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. posted slightly higher net income in the first quarter as revenue and backlog soared.

ATLANTA — Wabash National Corp., the nation’s top supplier of trailers, is renewing its trailer and truck body design using advanced composite panels to add strength, increase thermal efficiency and save weight, company executives said.

Trailer maker Wabash National Corp. launched a private offering of $325 million in senior unsecured notes as part of the purchase for the previously announced pending acquisition of truck body builder Supreme Industries Inc.

Wabash National Corp. said the number of fleets committed to testing its new Cold Chain Series refrigerated van trailer made with molded structural composites is now at four with the addition of Leonard’s Express.

Trailer dealership River-Roads Sales & Leasing announced it added new dry van and refrigerated trailers from Wabash National Corp. to its product line.

Trailer manufacturer Wabash National Corp. reported third-quarter net income edged up 3% to $33 million, or 51 cents per share, compared with $32 million, or 47 cents, in the period ended Sept. 30.
