Roadrunner Transportation Systems reported a net loss of $91.2 million for full-year 2017 compared with a loss of $360.3 million in 2016. The diluted loss per share was $2.37 for 2017 compared with a diluted loss per share of $9.40 for 2016.

Two former executives of carrier Roadrunner Transportation Systems were charged June 15 by the U.S. Department of Justice with multiple counts of conspiracy and wire and securities fraud in a scheme that the department claims led to a loss of $245 million in shareholder value.

Roadrunner Transportation Systems in the past week traveled a bit further on its path to earn a profit and remain a publicly listed company, releasing results for the first nine months of 2017. The Downers Grove, Ill.-based truckload and less-than-truckload carrier has been amending its financial filings since announcing more than a year ago that a company-led investigation found that the previous management team made substantial accounting errors.

One year after withdrawing its financial statements dating to 2011, Roadrunner Transportation Systems Inc. on Jan. 31 took a major step forward by releasing amended results through 2016.

Roadrunner Transportation Systems received an extension through April 4 to remain on the New York Stock Exchange, avoiding a delisting due to the company retracting financial statements for every quarter since the beginning of 2016 and also pulling its annual reports for 2015 and 2016.

Roadrunner Transportation Systems has agreed to sell its Unitrans Inc. subsidiary to Quick International Courier for $95 million in cash.

The truckload industry continued to struggle in the second quarter and earnings are expected to be down year-over-year for most carriers, based on forecasts from industry analysts and interviews with several fleets.
