Four members of the U.S. House have introduced a bipartisan bill that would provide tax equity for carriers that use liquefied natural gas rather than diesel in their trucks.

Diesel’s national average price dropped 5.3 cents to $2.864, the second straight decline after five increases, the Department of Energy reported March 23.

The average U.S. retail diesel price declined 2.7 cents to $2.917 per gallon, snapping a streak of five weekly price increases, the Department of Energy reported March 16.

A gradual thawing out from the recent blast of cold weather that engulfed much of the United States helped slow the retail diesel and gasoline price increases last week, the Department of Energy reported.

Diesel fuel will average $2.89 per gallon at the pump this year, the Department of Energy reported, as it boosted its most recent forecast by 5 cents.

Diesel’s pump price increase slowed as the fuel’s national average rose 0.8 cent to $2.944 a gallon, while gasoline’s increase also decelerated, the Department of Energy reported.

Diesel’s national average pump price rose for a fourth straight week, gaining 3.6 cents to $2.936 a gallon, while gasoline prices jumped more than 14 cents, the Department of Energy reported March 2.

Diesel’s national average retail price continued its recent string of increases, gaining 3.5 cents to $2.90 a gallon, the highest level in five weeks, the Department of Energy reported.
