Watchdog Criticizes FMCSA Over Repeat Rule-Breakers
Sean McNally
| Staff Reporterhe Department of Transportation’s internal watchdog office said the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration is not doing enough to stop carriers who repeatedly break federal safety rules.
In a report released April 21, the DOT’s Office of Inspector General also said FMCSA needs to do more to address congressional mandates such as the new-entrant and medical certification programs.
In general, the OIG’s report on its audit of FMCSA showed that while the truck-safety agency had increased its enforcement activities, it fell short in other areas.
