he Transportation Security Administration announced it had hired consultant BearingPoint Inc. to begin the third and final test phase of its Transportation Worker Identification Card program.

TSA said it would work with BearingPoint on a “seven-month prototype . . . to analyze the administrative and business processes involved in collecting transportation worker data, performing background checks, issuing credentials and studying the day-to-day use of the cards.”

The contract was valued at $12 million, TSA said in its Aug. 10 announcement.

TSA spokesman Darrin Kayser told Transport Topics that BearingPoint would be looking at “all the nuts and bolts that need to be done” to run the TWIC program.
