A Postal Service committee is scheduled to vote this week on whether to issue a stamp commemorating the 100th anniversary of trucking for the year 2003.
The Citizens Stamp Advisory Committee will meet Oct. 28 and 29 in Washington, D.C., to review the request by American Trucking Associations Chairman John Wren.
鈥淭he Postal Service recognized the role trucking played in the economic developments at the turn of the 20th century by issuing a 50th anniversary of the trucking industry stamp in 1953,鈥 Wren wrote in his request to the committee. 鈥淚n the last 50 years, trucking has played an even more integral role in our nation鈥檚 economic vitality and quality of life. A 100th anniversary stamp is a small but important way of thanking the men and women who have played a driving role in making this country what it is today.鈥
In an interview, Wren said a commemorative stamp would supplement ATA鈥檚 efforts to improve trucking鈥檚 image.
