Stellantis Sales in US Drop 10% Despite Ram Recovery

Stellantis NV’s U.S. sales fell 10% in the second quarter despite resilient demand for Jeep SUVs and Ram trucks, indicating the beleaguered automaker still has a ways to go in its recovery bid.
Ram sales rose 5% in the period, driven by rising demand for its light-duty pickup trucks. Jeep deliveries inched up 1%, bolstered by models including the Wrangler sport utility vehicle and the Gladiator truck.
But those gains were offset by steep declines at Chrysler, Dodge and Alfa Romeo, largely due to a lack of fresh models. The results contrasted with sales gains for rivals General Motors Co., Ford Motor Co., Toyota Motor Corp. and Hyundai Motor Co., which benefited from a springtime surge fueled by shoppers racing to buy cars to beat President Donald Trump’s tariffs.
Stellantis is battling to regain share after annual U.S. sales declined for four straight years under former Chief Executive Carlos Tavares, who kept prices high as interest rates rose and left key holes in the model lineup. The company in May appointed a new chief executive, former Jeep boss Antonio Filosa, who is expected to shake up product strategy as he works to introduce more affordable vehicles and overcome obstacles created by Trump’s trade moves.

Stellantis is offering an employee pricing promotion across its brands through July to try to seize on consumer demand before tariffs potentially drive up sticker prices. The company aims to plug a major hole in its portfolio with an all-new Jeep Cherokee, which will hit the U.S. market in late 2025 after two years of being largely absent.
Ram showed the most significant turnaround after brand CEO Tim Kuniskis unleashed a blitz of changes this spring to claw back share in the hyper-competitive pickup segment. He delayed the launch of two electric trucks to ramp up sales of more affordable gas-powered models, and announced the return of the popular Hemi V8 engine, which had been phased out under Tavares.

Ram also introduced a 10-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty in June for the first time ever, an effort to ease maintenance costs as buyers finance cars for longer periods to offset higher prices and high borrowing costs.
Stellantis on July 2 named Kuniskis head of the carmaker’s American brands and North America marketing and retail strategy, a newly created position he’ll take on in addition to his Ram CEO post. Kuniskis will work across nameplates and with dealers to bolster sales.
“We will leverage his energy, his strategic mindset and his competitive spirit to supercharge all our brand activities,” Filosa said in a statement.
