In congressional lawmakers’ rush to conclude business and return to their home districts, legislation creating a motor carrier administration is being left at the wayside. However, final action is promised in 2000.

The Senate will not vote on a motor carrier safety bill before its scheduled adjournment this week, said Pia Pialorsi, spokeswoman for the Senate Commerce Committee.
“Floor action is definitely not going to happen this year,” she said.
While Senate Commerce Committee Chairman John McCain (R-Ariz.) pledged in September to move the legislation as quickly as possible, he was unable to convene the committee to vote on the legislation, according to Pialorsi.
