Seat-Belt Laws, Liability Changes Top Agenda For ATA Insurance Task Force, Officials Say
ALLAS — Trucking executives will continue to advocate insurance and legal reforms in state legislatures and will work to institute primary seat-belt laws across the country, industry officials said during American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition here.
Mike Card, chairman of ATA’s Insurance Task Force, said the group’s main focus this year will be fighting liability laws he said add costs for the country’s trucking industry in the form of higher insurance rates and millions of dollars lost in lawsuits.
“We are spending more money than ever before to fight this war against unfair laws,” said Card, who also is president of Combined Transport Inc., Central Point, Ore.
