Real-Time Video Sites to Watch Traffic Flow at Colorado Truck Stops in Cooperative Plan
The monitors will stream video from cameras to be placed along the state鈥檚 major highways by the Colorado Department of Transportation, which also will听 install the software in truck stops to support the system.
鈥淭ravelers will be able to see current traffic speeds, weather conditions and bottlenecks,鈥 CDOT said in a June 11 statement announcing the plan.
鈥淚n addition, drivers will be provided with alerts related to road closures, accidents, roadway construction, and other conditions that could affect travel,鈥 CDOT said.
The program is a cooperative effort between CDOT, various truck stop operators, the Colorado Motor Carriers Association, and Wal-Mart, which donated the monitors.
As Colorado truck drivers know, rapid weather changes are common in the mountainous state, CMCA Chairman Victor Do-menico said in a statement. 鈥淎llowing drivers to visually see the current conditions on key highways will allow them to make better decisions in their trip planning and preparation,鈥 he said.
Domenico joined CDOT and Wal-Mart representatives at a kick-off event last month at one of the state鈥檚 largest truck stops, Johnson鈥檚 Corner Truckstop in Johnstown.
The systems also will be installed in truck stops in Commerce City, Wiggins, Grand Junction, Limon, Watkins, Fountain, Brush, Walsenberg and Glenwood Springs.
