Post Office Is $2.8 Billion in Red

The United States Postal Service was $2.8 billion in the red in the fiscal year ended in September, the Associated Press reported Thursday.

The poor state of the economy has caused a 9.5 billion-item drop in pieces of mail, AP said.

Postmaster General John Potter said USPS is planning cuts in hours and overtime, but no layoffs are currently planned.
