nvironmental officials in New Jersey put industry officials on notice that the state would step up enforcement of its anti-idling law by the end of July.

Peg Hanna, diesel risk reduction manager for the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, told Transport Topics the targeted idling enforcement would probably not start until the end of the month, but “we’ve [already] responded to a few egregious situations down in south Jersey.”

As part of the program, Hanna said 75 enforcement officers would target areas diesel-powered vehicles frequented.

A compliance alert issued in late June said those areas would include: truck yards, warehouse distribution centers, retail centers, convenience stores, public entertainment venues and bus staging areas.
