With nationals in Columbus, Ohio, less than two months away, Schultz has again turned his attention to training.
He devotes plenty of time to the nuances related to the competition鈥檚 disciplines, such as the pre-trip vehicle inspection and written examination of industry rules. He constantly is listening to the audio version of the 鈥淔acts for Drivers鈥 manual, which is the basis for the tournament鈥檚 exam.

"And that鈥檒l basically be my Saturday routine. And listen to the book for a few hours a night and that鈥檒l more or less be my routine until August.鈥
Schultz鈥檚 brother, Kaden, and father, Clint, train together. The patriarch, a nationals qualifier during his trucking career, took on the role of mentor.
鈥淭he biggest thing that he preaches to my brother and I is probably the back room,鈥 Kolton Schultz explained. 鈥淪o the written [exam] and the pre-trip [inspection] is where you鈥檙e going to set yourself up for success or win.鈥
