However, the support of groups like the American Automobile Association and Advocates for Highway and Auto Safety is tempered by criticism of provisions they don’t like in the reforms.

The proposal has been the target of much scorn by businesses and trade groups since being unveiled in late April. It also has drawn some mild praise in between batterings during a series of public hearings, which run from May 31 to July 6 in seven cities.

Transport Topics sought the opinions of some proponents to determine areas that get their thumbs up or thumbs down.
