The second of two proposals designed to revamp the commercial driver license program is intended to improve the way states share data about truck driver performance, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

Coupled with a recent proposal to disqualify truckers for convictions of serious moving violations while driving their personal cars, this rule would require states to make information about violations available to trucking managers and law enforcement officers more quickly.

The proposal, which FMCSA staff said should be ready within weeks, would withhold federal funds from states that don’t comply with uniform CDL requirements.
