The national average diesel price increased for the third consecutive week, rising 5.4 cents a gallon to $3.812, according to U.S. data released July 22.

The cost of diesel has risen four times in the past five weeks, totaling a 24.1-cent bump.

The price for a gallon of trucking’s main fuel is 3.3 cents higher than at this time in 2024. The only other time the cost was higher this year than last was June 24. Before then, July 15, 2024, was the last time the current cost was higher.

Regional Trends

The average price for a gallon of diesel rose in all regions and subregions of the country. The Gulf Coast saw the biggest increase at 7.3 cents, while the smallest bump came in the New England subregion at 1.5 cents.

Gasoline Update

Unlike diesel, the national average price for a gallon of gasoline decreased nine-tenths of a cent to $3.121 a gallon. Gas costs 35 cents less than at this time a year ago.
