The national average diesel price continued to slide, shedding 5.9 cents to reach $3.789 a gallon, according to data released May 20.

Highlights

• The current diesel price marks the first time it has cost less than $3.80 a gallon since July 3, 2023, when it was $3.767.
• The average price for a gallon of diesel has fallen a total of 27.2 cents since it cost $4.061 on April 8.
• The average price for a gallon is 9.4 cents less than at this time in 2023.
• The average diesel price dropped in all 10 regions in , with the steepest decline being 8.3 cents in the Midwest and mildest being just nine-tenths of a cent in the Lower Atlantic.
• The average price for a gallon of gasoline dipped 2.4 cents to $3.584. That's a nickel less than it cost at this time a year ago.
