The national average diesel price slid 4.6 cents to $4.015 a gallon, according to Energy Information Administration data released April 15.

Diesel was last below $4 a gallon April 1, when a 3.8-cent decline dropped the average price from $4.034 to $3.996.

Highlights

• The average diesel price went down in nine of the 10 regions in EIA’s weekly survey, the exception being a gain of sixth-tenths of a cent in New England. The biggest decrease was 6.3 cents in the Lower Atlantic.
• A gallon of diesel now costs 10.1 cents less on average than at this time in 2023.
• The average diesel price in the Lower Atlantic, Midwest and Rocky Mountain regions dropped to below $4 a gallon with their respective declines.
• The national average price for a gallon of gasoline bumped up 3.7 cents to $3.628. That's 3.5 cents less than it cost at this time a year ago.
