The average price of retail diesel fuel rose 3.7 cents to $3.345 a gallon, while gasoline jumped 7.3 cents to $3.053, the Department of Energy said.
The diesel increase marked the first following four declines since trucking’s main fuel peaked at an all-time record $3.444 a gallon on Nov. 26.
Gasoline’s increase was the first following six straight declines since Nov. 12, when it jumped 9.8 cents to $3.111.
Crude oil prices jumped to more than $98 in intraday trading Wednesday for the first time since November, on concerns about violence in Nigeria, Bloomberg reported.
Oil set a record closing price of $98.18 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Nov. 23.
Each week, DOE surveys about 350 diesel filling stations to compile a national snapshot average price.
