The consumer price index rose by 0.1% in September, the Labor Department said Friday.
The gain follows two consecutive months of 0.3% increases.
The core CPI rate, which excludes food and energy, was unchanged for the second consecutive month.
The CPI’s increase was smaller than economists’ estimates of 0.2%.
Almost 60% of the CPI covers prices consumers pay for services. If consumer prices are climbing, it could reflect an increase in demand for consumer goods, which increases the demand for trucking services.
