BNSF Won't Block Larger Trucks
Rose Says Bigger Vehicles Should Pay Higher Fees
ALLAS — The top executive of one of the nation’s largest railroads said he would not oppose efforts to increase federal truck size and weight limits, as long as larger trucks pay higher fees to use the nation’s roads.
Matt Rose, chairman and chief executive officer of Burlington Northern Santa Fe Corp., which helped pioneer the development of truck-rail intermodal, said the freight industry needs to increase productivity, and “at BNSF, we will support any initiative for truck size and weight as long as it’s on a modal-equitable basis.”
Rose spoke Oct. 31 at the American Trucking Associations’ Management Conference & Exhibition here, just a few miles from BNSF’s Fort Worth, Texas, headquarters.
