Bendix to Debut Next-Gen Truck Safety System in 2015
Bendix Commercial Vehicle Systems said it will debut in 2015 an advanced next-generation safety system for trucks that fuses camera, radar and brakes.
The system builds on and combines the company鈥檚 electronic stability program, collision mitigation technology and lane-departure warning system.
鈥淲hen these systems are fully integrated 鈥 鈥榯alking鈥 directly to each other, in a sense, with multiple sensors confirming situational data 鈥 you get far more robust decision making in the system as a whole,鈥 T.J. Thomas, director of marketing and customer solutions for the controls group, said in a statement.
鈥淭hat means more effective alert prioritization and a substantial reduction of false alerts. And this sensor-data fusion is also crucial to unlocking new safety capabilities like stationary vehicle braking,鈥 he added.
The stationary vehicle braking function, part of the new system, delivers a warning and with more alert time but can apply the brakes when a large metallic in-lane object, such as a vehicle, is blocking the road.
鈥淲e鈥檝e improved and fused together the most advanced technologies in the Bendix commercial-vehicle safety suite to create a system that does more, and does it better, for today鈥檚 commercial-vehicle market,鈥 said Scott Burkhart, vice president of sales, marketing and business development.
