The American Transportation Research Institute has named Steve Williams, president of flatbed carrier Maverick USA, its new chairman.
Williams, a former American Trucking Associations chairman, replaces outgoing ATRI Chairman Doug Duncan, president of FedEx Freight, who recently announced his retirement.
ATRI鈥檚 relationship with ATA 鈥渉as enabled us to do a lot of work for government agencies,鈥 Duncan said.
Williams, who has served on the ATRI Board since 2006, said will focus on increasing ATRI鈥檚 visibility, highlighting the value of ATRI鈥檚 research, and the crucial role of scientific data in advancing the industry鈥檚 safety and productivity.
鈥淎TRI delivers the data gathering and analysis to inform the discussion on a host of headline issues, including onboard safety systems, freight performance measures and driver fatigue.听Armed with the facts, carriers can make the right choices for meeting the challenges ahead,鈥 he said.
Williams was ATA鈥檚 chairman from 2004-2005 and was first appointed to ATRI鈥檚 board in 2006.
