American Trucking Associations welcomed a delegation of Chinese trucking officials to its headquarters in Arlington, Va., Monday, where the two talked about international trucking issues in the two countries.
鈥淲e are all part of a burgeoning global economy,鈥 ATA President Bill Graves said in a statement. 鈥淭he Chinese understand that their national economy is directly linked to freight transportation and a supporting national infrastructure.鈥
Mingde Yao, President of the China Road Transport Association, said through an interpreter, 鈥淥ver the last year, the Chinese government has invested $100 billion on road construction. But the efficiency of Chinese freight transportation has a long way to go. Our main purpose is to understand how trucking in the United States has developed.鈥
A number of ATA members, including UPS Inc. and FedEx Corp., already operate in China and even more are interested in expanding there as the Asian nation's government continues to invest in transportation infrastructure, Graves said, the Associated Press reported.
