A four-month-long strike at Iowa-based contract carrier 10 Roads Express by members of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters has taken a major step toward resolution.
Carter Lake-based 10 Roads reached a tentative agreement on a nationwide labor agreement with the union, the Teamsters said in a June 16 post on Facebook.
The union said the tentative deal would deliver comprehensive health care, but it provided few other details about resolution of the industrial action that began in February when more than 500 members walked off the job.
A Teamsters spokesman was not immediately available for comment June 20. No details were made available on when a member vote would take place.
U.S. Postal Service-focused contract carrier 10 Roads did not respond to requests for comment June 20. 10 Roads ranks No. 50 on the Transport Topics Top 100 list of the largest for-hire carriers in North America. The company operates 36 terminals in the U.S. and has scheduled delivery points in 47 states. The carrier operates more than 3,500 company-owned tractors and 5,000 company-owned trailers.
The eight-state strike began Feb. 18, with the Teamsters accusing 10 Roads of refusing to bargain in good faith. Teamsters Freight Division Director John Murphy previously said that 10 Roads workers chose to strike because the company had not offered a contract that “recognizes our hard work and the essential service we provide.”
