Pacer International said Thursday it posted a first-quarter profit compared with a loss a year ago.

The world’s two largest oil companies Thursday reported multi-billion-dollar first-quarter profits, up from a year ago, on higher crude oil prices.

Initial jobless claims increased by 25,000 last week, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

Canadian National Railway Co. said its first-quarter net income increased 30.7% to C$668 million, or C$1.45 per share, from C$511 million or C$1.08 per share, a year earlier.

Transportation and third-party logistics firm C.H. Robinson Worldwide reported a first-quarter profit of $97 million, or 59 cents a share, up 15.5% from $84 million, or 50 cents, a year earlier.

Vitran Corp. said late Tuesday its first-quarter loss narrowed from a year ago, as its revenue rose 18%.

Truckload carrier Celadon Group’s fiscal third-quarter profit jumped from a year ago, the company said late Tuesday.

Component maker Dana Holding Corp. said Wednesday its first-quarter loss narrowed and that it had positive adjusted net income excluding certain charges.

Covenant Transportation Group reported a first-quarter loss of $2.5 million, or 17 cents per share, compared with a loss of $2.2 million, or 15 cents, a year earlier.
