The EPA's plan this week to relax rules aimed at cleaning up auto tailpipe emissions is the latest Trump administration move to undo incentives for automakers to go electric.

Derek Barrs, nominated by President Donald Trump to the top post at the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, was easily approved by the Commerce Committee July 30.

The move was described as a nod to commitments made in the Clean Truck Partnership deal that California forged with truck manufacturers as part of the state’s emissions reduction efforts.

The agreement runs through 2033 and includes an upcoming plant in Taylor, Texas, to produce Tesla's next-generation AI6 chip.
