U.S. Postal Service Orders Ram Cargo Vans
Fiat Chrysler said it will supply more than 9,000 customized cargo vans to the U.S. Postal Service for delivering mail and packages.
Terms were not disclosed.
The order for new vans is separate from听the Postal Service's听program to find a replacement for its current fleet of 180,000 mail trucks with a 鈥渘ext-generation delivery vehicle,鈥 according to Fiat Chrysler officials.
鈥淲hile each and every one of our fleet customers is important to us, none command our attention like USPS,鈥 said Tim Kuniskis, vice president of听fleet operations for FCA North America. 鈥淚 can鈥檛 think of another more mission-critical service than literally delivering the goods of our nation on a daily basis.鈥
Each of the 9,113 Ram ProMaster 2500 cargo vans will be outfitted with gasoline-powered Pentastar V-6 engines and 6-speed automatic transmissions, with tie-down rings to hold cargo to the floor and sidewalls, along with vertical walls to accommodate shelving upfits.
The vans also feature electronic stability control and rear backup camera.
